The Saga Continues

Wednesday I put in the paperwork for my small claims filing against MRT Services, Inc. Of course, two days later, nothing new or exciting has happened. Well, a few things, maybe.

I got in contact with one of the companies that does a lot of work with MRT Services, Inc. there in Georgia (I have not disclosed names, emails, or the company's information). Here is a conversation I had with one of the people there:

Representative: Hello, how may we help you today?

Sara: Yes, I was curious to know if you guys are still offering services through MRT Services?

Representative: Yes we are.

Sara: Have you done any work with them within the last week?

Representative: Not that I am aware of.

Sara: I recently heard they were not paying their transcriptionists and were planning on filing bankruptcy--had you heard anything about that?

Representative: I heard that they are facing Bankruptcy however they have partnered with another company

Sara: Oh really? What company are they partnering with?

Representative: That I have not been told as of yet however (name removed) would be able to answer your questions in depth he can be reached at (email removed).

Sara: Okay, great. Thanks for your help!

So, of course, immediately after getting this information, I emailed the guy I was directed to. And here is a copy of THAT email conversation:

"I was chatting with (name removed) earlier today and I am trying to get
some information on the MRT Services, Inc. that you work with. I was
told they are going to be merging with another company. I'm curious to
know what company they are merging with--I have not been able to get a
hold of Laurie Sossa. Please provide me any information you may have.
Thank you!"

Email response:

"Sara--

I don't know any details about a possible merger. I know that they have
worked with one or more companies in the past to assist with spillover
business, but I have no idea who those companies are and Laurie has not
contacted me about any specifics on their plans moving forward. I just
heard on the news last night about a possible bankruptcy myself.

Sorry, wish I had more info. I do know that they are still handling all
of our transcripts and we are not making contingency plans until we hear
something more from MRT.

Feel free to check in with me in the next few weeks--there may be more
news then."

Over a week goes by, so I sent him an email asking if he has heard anything new. The response I receive?

"Nothing but silence. Sorry. I think they are going to let me know something in early June."

So, looks like it will be a few weeks before I know much else. But I'm interested in this so-called "merger."   I mean, if they "merge" with another company, does that mean they will all of a sudden pay the transcriptionists that they owe?  Probably not.  I'm not holding my breath on that one.  I mean, really, if they are in such bad shape that they're contemplating filing bankruptcy, no one is going to want to merge with them.  Especially if they are seriously in debt with numerous transcriptionists that have done work for them.  Am I right?
