I couldn't help but laugh the other day while on the phone with this one lady.
Let me start from the beginning, shall I?
Eric and I signed up for this parenting seminar that was on a Saturday in March. It was almost an all day thing, and when you signed up, you got breakfast, the seminar, free child care, blah blah blah, for $25. It was focusing on bullying, which is a big issue we have been dealing with with Christopher's classmates and whatnot, so we decided it would be a good idea to sign up. I wrote a check to the organization for $25 and mailed it in with my form. It said child care was limited, may not be available, such-n-such.
Well, I never heard anything back. I noticed a few days before the seminar that my check still hadn't cleared, and I hadn't received any kind of confirmation saying, yeah, you're signed up, yes, bring your kids, you got a spot for child care, nothing. And without my check clearing, I figured they just didn't get my mail. It wasn't worth putting a stop on the check since that's, well, $25, so whatever.
We ended up not going then, obviously, since I assumed we weren't signed up. Then the next week, our check clears. On the sheet I had about the seminar, there was no phone number, so I went online and looked up the organization. Found their website, found some contact emails and sent an email out asking for my refund.
Three email addresses and no response from ANYONE.
So I send another. Asking if they received my last email, just want a refund, yadda yadda. Still no answer. So then I send another email saying if I didn't hear from someone, I would contact the BBB. Nothing big, just said, hey, are my emails getting through? Anyone there? Finally went back to the website and got a hold of someone else. She replied right away with names and phone numbers of people to contact. I ended up leaving phone messages for these people, and of course, got voicemail and left messages with no calls returned.
So now I'm getting frustrated, and I contact the lady again to let her know I wasn't getting a response from anyone. She says she'll forward off the info and I should hear back within 24 hours on my refund.
I get a call Tuesday morning while I'm at my mom's house dropping off April. It was a lady (the name didn't match anyone I had been trying to contact) that said she was from the organization and she received the information about the requested refund.
"We don't normally do refunds, and it does say on the sheet, no refunds."
Of course, it doesn't, not on the part I have. Maybe it was on the portion that I had to cut off and mail in, but it sure wasn't on the sheet I had sitting on my desk at home.
"If you wanted to have this situation resolved, you should have contacted me. I'm the treasurer and my name, email address, and phone number were on the seminar sheet and all over the website."
Wrong. I even came home and looked up her name, and nothing. Have no clue what she's talking about, but her name is NOT on the website or my seminar sheet.
"We don't normally do refunds, but considering the issue you've been having, I will get a $25 check out for you."
With this, she confirmed my mailing address while she had a very upset, screaming child in the background. The conversation seemed a little 'rushed,' and this probably had something to do with it. She also had that 'you're wasting my time' kind of voice, like, you've been a pain, lets get this over with.
I digress. So she confirms my mailing address, and then goes, "okay, I will have a $25 check sent out in the mail today for you. Oh, and you can stop sending the harassing emails. Thanks, have a nice day."
WOAH WOAH WOAH! What?!? "Excuse me, ma'am?"
"Yes?"
"Um...what harassing emails?"
"You know, the ones you sent about contacting the Better Business Bureau." (Here's that snotty voice again...)
"Yeah, I sent that because after three emails to three different officers, I wasn't getting any responses. And it was not harassing by any means. It just clearly stated that if this wasn't going to be resolved, I would contact the Better Business Bureau."
"And you can contact the Better Business Bureau if you want, but I'm giving you your $25 back so there is no longer an issue."
"I agree. That's all I wanted was a refund. I was in no way being mean and nasty and 'harassing' you at all."
"Well, I think this has been taking care of. Goodbye."
Click.
Wow.
Seriously? Talk about some major PMS...
I looked back on my emails, and yeah, there was only ONE "mean" line in my email, and that was in the one where I asked for a response or I would have this resolved with the BBB. That's it. Nothing more was written that could have been in any way, shape, or form considered harassing.
I don't know what her problem was. I mean, really, who pooped in her oatmeal this morning?
